Glencoe is a village of about 9,000 residents on the Lake Michigan bluffs, roughly 20 miles north of Chicago, between Winnetka and Highland Park. It has one Metra station on the Union Pacific North line and a compact downtown centered on Vernon Avenue and Park Avenue.
Lots in Glencoe are among the largest on the North Shore, and the housing stock reflects it: ravine and lakefront estates on the east side, substantial homes on wooded lots through the center, and a smaller number of more modest houses west of Green Bay Road. Architecturally it is one of the more interesting villages, with a concentration of Frank Lloyd Wright and Howard Van Doren Shaw homes.
Schools are Glencoe District 35 for K-8 and New Trier Township High School. The Chicago Botanic Garden, Writers Theatre, Glencoe Beach, and the Skokie Lagoons are all inside or adjacent to the village.
