Northbrook

Established inland North Shore suburb with strong schools, Northbrook Court, Techny Prairie Park, and a mix of mid-century and newer single-family homes on larger lots.
Search Homes

Northbrook is a village of about 35,000 residents roughly 25 miles north of Chicago, inland from the lakefront villages, with easy access to the Edens Expressway and a Metra station on the Milwaukee District North line.

The housing stock is largely post-war single-family homes on larger lots than you find closer to the lake: split-levels, ranches, and colonials from the 1950s through 1980s, many of which have been expanded or replaced with new construction. Neighborhoods vary from the walkable area around the village center to the larger-lot subdivisions near Techny and the golf courses. Prices are generally below the lakefront villages, which makes Northbrook a common landing spot for buyers who want North Shore schools without the lakefront premium.

Schools are Northbrook Districts 27, 28, and 30 for K-8 and Glenbrook North High School. Northbrook Court, the Northbrook Park District system, Techny Prairie Park and Fields, and the River Trail Nature Center are the community anchors.

In Northbrook, the difference between a 1970s house that has been thoughtfully updated and one that has not is often six figures. Knowing which improvements a buyer will actually pay for is the whole game. Call or text Jimmy at 312-800-1552.
