Evanston

The southern anchor of the North Shore: a lakefront city bordering Chicago, home to Northwestern University, with a real downtown, CTA and Metra access, and housing from condos to lakefront mansions.
Search Homes

Evanston is a city of about 78,000 directly north of Chicago on Lake Michigan, and the largest community on the North Shore. It is home to Northwestern University, has a genuine downtown with high-rise condos, restaurants, and a Whole Foods, and is served by both the CTA Purple Line and Metra's Union Pacific North line.

The housing market is the most varied on the North Shore. Northeast Evanston, near the lake and the university, has large historic homes on tree-lined streets and lakefront estates on Sheridan Road. Downtown and the Main-Dempster corridor are dense with vintage and new-construction condos. South and west Evanston offer bungalows, two-flats, and smaller single-family homes at a lower price of entry. That range means Evanston competes with both Chicago neighborhoods and the villages to its north.

Public schools are Evanston/Skokie District 65 and Evanston Township High School. The lakefront parks and beaches, the Grosse Point Lighthouse, and the downtown arts and dining scene are the draws.

Because Evanston has so many property types, the right marketing plan for a Lakeshore Historic District home is nothing like the plan for a downtown condo. Call or text Jimmy at 312-800-1552 to talk about yours.
