Antioch

Chain O'Lakes access, a historic Main Street downtown, and larger lots near the Wisconsin line, about an hour from Chicago by Metra.

Antioch is a village of about 14,700 residents in far northern Lake County, a few minutes from the Wisconsin line and roughly 55 miles from downtown Chicago. It is the terminus of Metra's North Central Service to Union Station, and Route 83 runs straight through its historic Main Street downtown of shops, restaurants, and the PM&L Theatre.

Antioch is the northern end of the Chain O'Lakes. Lake Marie, Channel Lake, Lake Catherine, Petite Lake, and Bluff Lake all carry Antioch addresses, so the market runs from true lakefront with a pier down to channel-front homes and inland subdivisions. Away from the water, larger lots and newer construction on the village's edges give buyers more house and land for the money than the North Shore. For the lake side of the market, start with the guide to Chain O'Lakes waterfront homes for sale.

Schools are Antioch District 34 and Emmons District 33 for K-8, and Antioch Community High School (District 117). Summer means the Chain, the Antioch farmers market, and the Fourth of July on Main Street.
